A collection of Gerard/Mikey quotes!
"I was so scared that I would sneak into Gerard’s room and sleep on the floor." — Mikey Way.
"My whole life I was protective of Mikey because I felt that was my job, and that’s totally transferred to Bandit.” — Gerard Way.
"Being in a band with your brother is probably one of the most amazing things in the world." — Gerard Way.
"We’ve shared a lot of the same troubles. But sometimes he’s the older brother and sometimes I have to be." — Mikey Way.
"Mikey Way gets the gold star!" — Gerard Way.
"I’m very proud to announce my brother’s recent marriage. Watching him grow up into a man and finding love makes me the happiest brother alive." — Gerard Way.
"We’re the best friends in the world. We always hang out together. We always talk about lot of things, and when we were on tour, we were always in the same hotel room. There’s nothing bad about him. Even if there is, it’s just making me love him even more. Even if there is something bad about him, it’s endearing. Gerard is one talented and awesome person." — Mikey Way.
"I always saw myself doing something with him and I always will. If we decided we weren’t doing My Chem anymore, I’d still do someting with Mikey. I couldn’t not." — Gerard Way.
Gerard: Are there times when the band catch us doing something together and write it off as ‘just some Way shit’? There’s gotta be. We bitch about the same things in unison together.
Mikey: We both hate flying. If you ask the other guys, I bet they would tell you there’s loads of other Way shit.
Gerard: We’re always in the lobby half an hour before we need to leave anywhere, having coffee. We always show up to things at the same time and do the same thing.
Mikey: We’re always super early for things, it’s weird.
"Can [the fans] steal Mikey? Hell no, dude! We need him here. I can understand the desire to steal him though, sure. He’s a sweet, sweet man. Just last night, before we went on, I came into the dressing room to find him asleep on the couch in full Black Parade gear. I just wanted to take a picture of him and send it to Hallmark so they could put it on a card." — Gerard Way.
“For my brother, Mikey Way, and all the Saturdays spent reading comics, firing laser guns, and saving the world.” — Gerard Way (from TUA:Dallas).
“Gerard needs protecting though too. If you look through history, most of the people that died tragically or imploded or went crazy were the headmen of the band. It’s not a coincidence. It’s obvious that they didn’t have enough support around them. If Gerard had to take all the pressure of this band alone, he would run to an island and change his name.” — Mikey Way.
"[Mikey] inspires me in so many ways. He’s so talented. I think some times he doesn’t quite realize how special or talented he is." — Gerard Way.
“We were pretty close—that’s probably why we still are now. We brought each other up in certain ways: creatively and emotionally. We were very solitary together, if you see what I mean. We would entertain each other or talk nonsense for hours. That’s why we have such a dialogue today: we know what each other are thinking, what we’re going to say and we still enjoy it.” — Gerard Way.
“[Gerard and I] were pretty wild. People called us ‘the Chemical Brothers.’ I’d roll into places and people would always ask me if I had any drugs, because that’s what they were used to. Me and him got a reputation for it, we had this aura if trouble around us, people thought we were dangerous.” — Mikey Way.
"We had just slivers of sunlight, we were like mole people, me and Mikey. The neighborhood was kind of dangerous - you get a taste for using your imagination so you don’t have to go outside." — Gerard Way.
“Mikey is the eternal kid brother of the band. He has a lot of heart and is just a bit shy and awkward. We’re very protective of him.” — Gerard Way.
"Without my big brother, I probably literally wouldn’t be here." — Mikey Way.
"When we realized we were going to re-record the album, I turned to Mikey and said just one thing: ‘Danger days, here we come again’." — Gerard Way.
Gerard: [Mikey and I are] the same dudes really. I think the only difference between me and Mikey is one of us is really extroverted, one’s introverted.
Interviewer: Which is which?
Gerard: Well, I play the idiot. [laughs]
Mikey: Yeah, I’m kinda mellow.
Gerard: He’s really… when he was younger he was a lunatic.
Mikey: As I got older I just mellowed out.
Gerard: And I was this, the quiet sweet kid and I just got really to that stage.
Interviewer: Well, you still convey a sweetness…
Gerard: Yeah, you know, part of me is just like the music making me do crazy things.
“Mikey’s always got my back. He’s one of the most supportive people in my life alongside my wife. Anything I want to do, he’s there for me: from working on a drawing as a kid, to what we do now. And I’ve always tried to be there for him. Knowing there’s somebody out there who has so much trust in what you do is great.” — Gerard Way.
Mikey: Oh, I know something exciting that happened on the road. I tried to quit coffee and I had headaches every day.
Frank: That happened today.
Gerard: Yeah, that happened today. You almost bought coffee.
Interviewer: Caffeine withdrawl.
Frank: Did you get the headaches?
Mikey: Yeah, I have a headache, really bad. I was in a gas station and there was a pot of coffee and I looked at it for about a minute and then my brother got a coffee and he taunted me.
"[Madison Square Garden] holds a special place in our hearts. About 12 years back, my big brother took me to see The Smashing Pumpkins at that very venue. I turned to him and said, "This is what I want to be… this is what we have to do… one day we are going to be on that stage." He felt and thought the exact same thing." — Mikey Way.
“There was a time when we had the spark shower after Disenchanted, right before it came down I noticed that my brother was standing right under it and I’m like, I’m trying to kinda like say, ‘C’mere!’ and he’s just smilin’ at me and then I had to go grab him.”— Gerard Way.
Interviewer: So, you’re Gerard’s brother, right? A lot of people sent through emails asking why the two of you don’t look alike. I’m like, ‘Well some brothers don’t look alike’…
Mikey: Yeah, I mean, we looked a lot alike when we were younger
Interviewer: So you do share the same father then? [laughs] That’s good to know, phew.
Mikey: Yeah, we’re definitely Ways, but, um, yeah, I mean, when we were younger we looked identical.
“[Mikey]’s my best friend and he inspires me every single day.” — Gerard Way.
